Hello Mike !
I just read your e-mail...
My answer about Circular Breathing: It's very easy...
No kidding: I learnt it by myself and I use it as an exercice to
'get me down' before a concert. The most common method to learn it is to
take a glass of water and a 'strawpipe' (I'm not sure whether that's the right
translation in english... you use it to sip the water (or the Coca Cola) through
it). The key to circulat breathing is to pull out the air with your cheek
(without using the diaphragm breathing) and take air through your nose while
doing
this.
My advice is: First try to simply pull out some air with the strength of your
cheek. If you have the right feeling try to take some air through the nose.
You can held your hand in front of your mouth to controll whether the airstream
is steady.
When you've got a little bit familiar with this (the best thing is that you can
exercice it everywhere at any time!) you can try to do it with the clarinet.
You'll soon notice that there will occure two problems: The embouchure changes
during breathing and there is a little gap between pulling out the air with
your cheek and returning to normal breathing. It is easier to do it on scales
or no trills than on long notes...
I hope that this will help you and forgive me my poor english...
