Here is an excerpt from '"The Clarinet and Clarinet Playing" by David Pino
in regards to the note produced by blowing on a mouthpiece sans
Clarinet:
"If you set about achieving the right embrouchure, you should be
able to produce a tone that sounds about the same as the second
F-sharp above "middle C" on the piano. Repeat the tone production
process, as given in the preceding section, this time matching your pitch
to that particular F-sharp on the piano; do not allow your pitch to
vary with the volume control."

I make no judgements on this but must also point out that David Pino
uses a shoelace instead of a "standard" ligature. Out side of a few
odd things like this, the book has some very good information for
clarinet players.
