In regards to early morning breathing control and the foods you eat:
Most of the difficulty lies in low blood sugar. We all
know the "shaky" feeling that comes when we haven't eaten. In the
morning our blood sugar is at its lowest. By eating a balanced meal you
are stabalizing the body's glucose level. The most difficult muscles to
control are the small muscles such as the embouchure and the diaphragm.
These are the first to go when our blood sugar drops. Eating a donut and
drinking coffee only causes the levels to drop even lower in about 30
minutes so if you are simply not a breakfast eater (as I'm not) I suggest
a protein supplement. The ADA suggest that 40% of our daily protein must
be taken in the morning. I have tried various types but have found
Shaklee's Instant Protein to be the best. It is a soy derivitive and
most accessible to the body. If there are any questions about diet or
health I would love to hear them. Remember, our instruments are an
extension of our bodies. If your not feeling well, your not playing well.
