About ten years ago I played for WSS, and remember the books being a
mess. We literally had to go through measure by measure counting bars in
order to end up in the right place. A few years thereafter I had heard
that Bernstein himself found out that it was impossible for a
professional to show up, sit down, and play any of his books because of
the difficulty in reading the part. So he contacted Tamis-Whitmark (the
rental agent??) and threated to pull the right to it, so they couldn't
use it unless they recopied all the parts into a legible form. Has
anyone else heard this?

Regarding those who have played this show recently. . .where to parts
easy to read manuscript, or were there a million "cut" arrows? If it is
the former, then at least they have been recopied; maybe Bernstein didn't
become involved?? Validity?
