I have a student that has only been playing a few months, her lip and mouth
positions are reasonable for someone of that standard, but her main
problem is that she tends to constrict her throat while she plays. This
results in a "strangled" sound, as if she was pressing down too hard on
the reed. Apart from encouraging her to relax and use her diaphragm
rather than her throat to breathe are there any (easy) exercises anyone
can recommend to help her do this? I have a few ideas, but would welcome
some input from others.
Thanks.
