April,

Have you looked at the _Five_Short_Pieces_for_Unaccompanied_Clarinet_ by
Gordon Jacob? They're not extremely difficult, quite conservative, and very
musical. Jack Brymer lists the piece in his book, _The_Clarinet_. I read
through them several years ago, and I was very impressed, as I am by almost
anything by Gordon Jacob. One movement, "Homage to J. S. Bach," struck me
as especially enjoyable, both for the player and the audience. I believe
they're published by Oxford University Press.

As far as trills from b'' to c'''#, I generally use the standard b''
fingering while trilling the second side key (from the top, the one used for
a true [throat] b'b). If that doesn't work, try the first side key. If
that doesn't work, try both at once. As a last resort, you might try this
strange one: finger RT 23 / 123 c#, and trill 3 and c# with the right hand
simultaneously. It doesn't blow easily, and it's not very stable, but it
may work in a pinch.

Hope that helps.

David Gilman
