Svein,

Jonathan Cohler mentioned two recordings of the
Francaix Concerto, one by Maurice Gabai and one by Phillipe Cuper. I have
both recordings and they are both excellent, although I prefer the Gabai.

In reverse order, the recordings are as follows:

1. Cuper: Copland, Nielsen, and Francaix Concertos,
L'Orchestre de Bretagne, Directed by Jean Francaix, ADDA CD No. 581315.
(The U.S. distributor is Qualiton Imports, Ltd, whose address is listed
near the end of this message.)

2. Gabai: The following is an import from a previous
message to Christopher Zello on the same subject:

Chris,

Both the Francaix Concerto and Quintet are part of an LP record series
entitled, "Musique Francaise du 20 Siecle," on the Cybelia label. In each
case, the clarinetist was Maurice Gabai, who, at the time, was first
chair at the Paris Opera.

The Concerto is performed with the Orchestre Kovaldy, which is
conducted by the composer, and the recording number is CY 650. The
recording also contains the Francaix Bassoon Concerto.

The Quintet is performed with the Ensemble Arte da Camera, and
the recording number is CY 648. Also contained on the recording is
the Milhaud Suite for Clarinet, Violin, and Piano.

Although neither recording has any information on dates,
my guess as to the vintage of the recordings is early to mid-1980s.

The domestic distributor is Qualiton Imports, Ltd. [24-02 40th Ave,
Long Island City, N.Y. 11101]. The French distributor is Disco-Shop,
22 Rue de la Republique, 94160 Saint Mande.
