Clark,
I have not worn out the plating of the instruments, other than
after a few years the keys take on that pink hue.
I have heard from a few folks that the Yamaha company OWNS their
own forest, and that they decide when to harvest, etc.
I had the crack on my new clarinet glued, not pinned. It seems
to be doing fine, but I am not familiar with the gluing process at all.
The guy who worked on it in Eugene said that the crack was not advanced
enough for it to be pinned.

thanks
