ClarinetFest, '95
Arizona State University - Tempe, AZ
July 12-16

The School of Music at Arizona State University is proud to present the
ClarinetFest '95 on our campus. Plans have been made to present for you
not only some of the finest clarinet performers in the world today, but
also some of our finest teachers, scholars, and young artists. Our list
includes clarinetists from all over the world, representing many schools of
performance and teaching. We have worked with the Valley of the Sun
Convention Bureau to create an adventure for not only our ICA members, but
their families as well. We hope you come to celebrate clarinet in a city
where the sun shines an average of 300 days per year, in the gentle
relaxed environment of the southwest United States.

Aside from our thrilling recitals and informative lectures, we are
particularly pleased that Clark Brody, Mitchell Lurie, Bernard Portnoy, and
Alfred Prinz will be participating in a panel discussion called "The
Legends of Clarinet". Please be a part of this session by mailing or
FAXING me questions you would like to ask them such as, who were their
teachers, who were some of the famous conductors they played for, or what
was their most thrilling performance experience. We can all benefit by the
wealth of information that these four men will bring to our conference.

The ICA Clarinet Choir will again perform at the conference and will be
conducted by Norman Heim. His knowledge of literature for the clarinet
choir is legendary. The choir will perform as part of the final day's
activities as a scheduled event. Please indicate your interest in the
choir by checking the appropriate area on the registration sheet.

Buddy DeFranco and Joe Lucasik are our featured Jazz Clarinetists. Joe
Lucasik will be performing "An Evening of Jazz in the Mountains", as we
travel to the cool of the mountain air for an evening of Jazz and Bar-B-Que
in Prescott, Arizona. At an elevation of 6,000 feet, and the cool of the
pines in the Prescott National Forest, this promises to be a very special
evening indeed. Buddy DeFranco will play the final concert of the
conference, a fitting way to end our four days of clarinet festivities!

Arizona State University

The conference will be held in the air conditioned music facilities on the
ASU campus. Our four recital halls will provide more than enough space for
rehearsals, concerts, lectures and classes. Our Frank Lloyd Wright
designed auditorium will provide the location for all of our evening
recitals. ASU is a ten minute shuttle ride from the Phoenix Sky Harbor
International Airport. We have reserved two complete hotels within a seven
minute walking distance from the music facilities as well as university
dormitory space. For those of you wanting a meal plan, one is available
through the University. However, as a university town home to over 45,000
students during the academic year, we also have some pretty incredible
restaurants and night clubs within walking distance of the conference
facilities. A complete list of restaurants and night clubs will be
furnished upon your arrival.

Travel/Accommodations

They have given us tremendous rates if booked through Go Travel! I
