This last weekend I played a gig with Bill Conti. It was a pops concert with
the San Jose SO and, because it was a tributed to Henry Mancini, they had
hired a tenor sax player to do the Pink Panther and Peter Gunn pieces.

I don't do many gigs with tenor players so I introduced myself to this
guy who told me his name was Anthony Picard, that he was local, and that
he lurked on the KLARINET mailing list. He had seen many of the postings
over the past few months but never contributed himself. He was quite shy.

Well he didn't have too much to play until Pink Panther came up and
then he wailed his brains out!!! He was terrific. The orchestra liked him,
the audience liked him, the conductor liked him, and I liked him because
he is on the KLARINET list.

It was so nice to meet someone who has been lurking on the list and then
play a job with that person to find out what an effective musicians he
was. If all lurkers play like him, we who don't work better start
watching over our shoulders!!!
