The Oehler clarinet is not a "toy" by any stretch of the imagination!
O. Oehler was the first principal clarinetist of the Berlin Philharmonic
when the orchestra was chartered in 1848. Many of his students became
important artists and to this day most Germans play the Oehler system. I
do know that there has been much activity in Chicago regarding the Oehler
system and even some of the period instuments. I do believe this is
still isolated in Chicago, though. Bellison, principal in the New York
Philharmonic for many years played the Oehler system and today Michele
Zukovsky, principal in L.A. performs on Oehler.

Yours,
Don Oehler
