<<An interesting point is that flutter in recording or playback equipment is
most noticeable with instruments that themselves have very little vibrato: in
particular, clarinet and piano. This is because any vibrato tends to mask
the flutter. This means that in shopping for equipment, test the candidates
on solo clarinet and piano music.>>

I cannot believe that the extreme flutter I ocasionally hear produced by
recording or playback equipment and affecting a clarinet sound could possibly
be masked if the player were to use a vibrato. There has to be another or
additional reason as to why it is so pronounced in the clarinet and piano
while virtually disappearing with other instruments.
