FWIW, you're probably on the right track. I have a friend who teaches
clarinet Dartington (he holds a professorship at the University of
Exeter). He swears by his DAT machine as a teaching tool: "it's often
much easier just to play them a recording of themselves, than it is to
explain the problem in words"
