Apparently various instruments have been the object of such scorn! The
version that I know is attributed to the great tenor saxophonist Zoot SIms
who is to have stated his definition of a gentleman: Someone who knows
how to play the accordion but doesn't. Although I am tolerant by nature
and recently marvelled at hearing someone play Bach with great beauty on
the bayan, a version of the squeezebox, I must say that when a strolling
accordionist intererupted my dinner at an Italian restaurant playing
schlock, I was tempted to agree with the late lamented Zoot!
