Mr. Dick Williams'comments on the use of vibrato struck a chord with
me. As I listen to different players, I too notice that many use vibrato
to some degree. Frankly, I am surprised at the attitude which says that
using vibrato in "legit" situations is off-limits. I think of it simply as
one more component in my ability to be an expressive player. The personality
of the player coming through in the musical performance is very important
to me. If it is a convincing performance, it really doesn't matter to me
whether or not vibrato is used. It's just a means to an end.
