Lisa made some very interesting and penetrating comments with respect
to the subject that Neil and I have been discussing on the board,
that subject being whether making a statement requires a person to
post a reason for it (or even responding to a later request for
a reason). While I don't disagree with Lisa's points, Neil and
I are discussing a variation she did not address.
Neil did not offer an opinion on a person, but on a technique. He
did not say, for example, "I don't like xxx's vibrato" but rather
"I don't like vibrato" on anyone, me, you, him, her, etc.
It is true that if he had said either statement, I probably would
have asked him why he thought that way, and he might have reacted
the same way.
Bottom line here is that I think Lisa to be right, but not 100%
on the topic of discussion. It is a discussion, isn't it? We
are simply sharing views, are we not?
