This should evoke some discussion. I have thought for a long time that
ALL clarinetists use SOME vibrato. The amplitude and/or period may vary
but whenever I listen closely, (I think?) I hear it. The vibrato of some
British artists is wide (has large amplitude); New Orleans jazz artists
often use a fast (low period high frequency) vibrato. With "legit"
artists it is less perceptible and varies with style of the composer.
It use seems more common among all players than it was earlier (say 50
years ago).

Am I hearing things? If not, then some of your comments would seem to
indicate that vibrato is perhaps being used unconsciously. We could use
it more effectively if we used it consciously.

I am probably full of it about this; but I bet it starts some chat. I
like that. (Sorry if this offends)
