Actually, over on Orchestra-list, there's a letter going out which people
are signing (by email) - the list administrator is taking care of taking
names and states (and provinces!) of people who agree with the following:

A DECLARATION OF SUPPORT FOR THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS

To: The Representatives and Senators of the United States of America

We would like to add our voices to the millions of Americans concerned over
the future of the National Endowment for the Arts (NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR
THE ARTS) and funding of the arts in the United States. Recent reports
about the intentions of the leaders of the new Congress not to fund or
eliminate the National Endowment for the Arts moved us in this
unprecedented manner, uniting our voices from all over the country via the
Internet.

GIVEN THAT:

The NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS represents the arts in the United
States: the symphonies, the theatres, the ballet, the opera and the
visual arts;

For every $1 the NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS awards, $11 is generated
from local arts agencies, foundations, corporations, state agencies and
individuals;

NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS funding stimulates the local economies: the
arts attract tourist dollars, attract business development, create jobs,
and improve the overall quality of life in our communities;

The NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS sponsors important participation of
arts organizations and artists in the curriculum of our schools,and that
NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS-sponsored art education programs enhance
the creativity and positive development of the future generations of this
country;

The NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS has supported over 100,000 arts
organizations, public radio and television, museums and projects,improving
the quality of life for millions of Americans;

The NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS represents a relatively small
expenditure; cutting or eliminating its budget would not significantly
reduce the budget deficit;

and that

The NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS is a national symbol of the arts in
this country representing the creative spirit that nurtures the soul of
this nation:

We believe that to terminate the agency or to significantly cut back the
programs it finances, would be a terrible historical mistake with
disastrous consequences.

Please work to maintain the NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS and its
important contribution to the cultural life of this country.

Sincerely,

The name of the list owner is:

Andrew Levin
Conductor, Clemson (SC) University Chamber Orchestra
ORCHESTRALIST list owner
alevin@-----.edu

If we (who are members of orchestralist) agree, we e-mail Andrew himself and ask
that we be a signatory... I'm not certain if he can/will take interested folks
from other lists, but there's no specific reference to the specific list, and
we're only signing as ourselves and our residences (and positions), so why not?
