Glad to finally have someone comment on vibrato relative to being part
of an ensemble, as opposed to a solo instrument. By teacher is horrified
when I use vibrato, and gives me extensive lectures on the difficulty
of playing with someone who is using vibrato, and how it is strictly
forbidden when playing Mozart, etc. On the other hand, I love the
clarinet for its "singing" quality, but generally am bored with
CD's of famous clarinetists who have what I consider a "dry" expressionless
non-vibrato sound! Would appreciate recommendations for CD's of
classical performers who do use extensive vibrato on solo works with
great expressive (subjective!) success. Thanks!
