I endorse establishment of a policy for advertising and service
announcements on KLARINET. Most of what I have read so far has been very
reasonable. In a recent post, Victor Freyer outlined his opinions and made
some suggestions. I'd like to comment on one aspect:

>>2. Adverising(sic) of services, or periodic infomercials are discouraged.

>anybody or product comparisons by a commercial interest. Of course,
>comparisons by ANYBODY should be regarded with skepticism.

I agree with the first two paragraphs, but I think it not unreasonable to
tolerate short notices of an instrument for sale _by an individual_. I
don't think an instrument would have to be the D Clarinet played by Josef
Niederbipp in the premiere performance of Mahler's 12th Symphony to justify
a posting. Personally, I wouldn't have much call for that instrument, but a
nice R13 might be what I or a student needs this week. The posting should
just something to provide the essential details and request inquiries be
made directly by email or phone with the seller (NOT the KLARINET list).

Such a collection of clarinetists as KLARINET represents seems just the sort
to be interested in the well maintained instrument that I can no longer care
for and feed.

But I wish to hear the collected opinions of KLARINET on the subject.
