The Reedual is a good machine, although the sandpaper cut is usually very
inconsistent--at least I have found this to be true through my past
experiences with using this machine. I currently use a "clarinerd toy"
called a Reed Wizard. I use the Reed Wizard on commercial reeds, and
recently I have had great success with it. It doesn't make bad reeds good,
but it does make good reeds better and more stable and they seem to even last
for a longer period of time. The key to the Reed Wizard is finding the
appropriate placement on the table for the file to shave; however, if you
prefer cutting your reeds from the tube/blanks on the Reedual, replace the
sandpaper after each blank, don't press the arm against the sanding wheel too
hard, and use very good blanks--the reed blanks are the most important stage
I have found.
