My C clarinet, made in Paris by Buffet in 1882, has poor throt tones.
But the throat tones were poor in 1882. According to Buffet to whom
I personally brought the intrument about 20 years ago hoping to get it
rebored, the original boring was unsatisfy and they no longer have
a boring tool of that dimension. Their exact words were "Nous n'avons plus
cet perceur

It was the original unsatisfactory boring thcaused the problem.m.
But one picking up the instrument today and not knowing
that history, would presume that some defect caused by age was responsible
for the poor throat tones.
