The question of older clarinets is complicated and probably, as Dan has said,
not solvable by any test. This is because the variability among old clarinets
would be expected to be greater, making any "tests" difficult. Also, there is
the clarinet as heard by the listener but there is also the clarinet as
wrestled with by the performer. It seems that mechanical wear of keys and
resulting effects on pads and the work required of the player may be as big an
issue as bore wear.

IMHO, my 30 yr old instrument never sounded better.
