Hello, my name is Matthias Ferdinand, I'm one of the lurkers here (last
contribution was about ligatures, about 1 year ago!).
On Mon, 16 Jan, Fred Jacobowitz asked that someone should translate the
verses to the Brahms quintet. I hope I'm not too late - I receive this
list as a digest. I'm not that sure of the words I've chosen, someone
with a more lyrical english background should perhaps supply some words
that are more appropriate. Anyway, here is my try:

Nimmt etwa dich heute Gott zu dich
hast du Ewigkeit genug fur seine Lust am Ich?
Uber kurz oder lang bist du Stimme in dem vaeterlichen
Liebesgesang!
Warum ich? Hab ich denn solche Lust am Ich
dass ich hoffen koennte darum naehm mich Gott zu sich?...

Will god take just you up to himself today
Do you have eternity enough for his (joy/lust) with the (ego/self/?)
Sooner or later you will become voice in the fatherly
song of love !
Why me ? Do I have such (joy/lust) with the (ego/self/?)
That I could hope god would therefore take me up to himself?....
