Christie,
I can appreciate what your friend is going through. Ten years ago,
I had wisdom teeth pulled. Since I was using Mitchell Lurie #5 reeds in
those days, the strain on my mouth and throat was very severe. I dealt with
it for a month or two by going to a softer reed. I went to a #2-1/2 for a
while, then a #3-1/2 when I felt stronger, then back to a #5. The
difference in sound and the loss of control frustrated me, but at least I
could play. [Since then, I have made a change to Vandoren V-12 #3-1/2's.]
