The list of CDs below is for those who are trying to order recordings by the
eminent French clarinettist Paul Meyer. They are all on the Japanese Denon
label owned by the Nippon Columbia Co. The sound is admirable and you will
hear some less frequently played music that may give you a pleasant
surprise. It goes to prove that Paul Meyer is an adventurous young man both
with respect to sound and choice of repertory.

Mozart, Busoni and Copland: Concertos
w/ English Chamber Orch., cond. David Zinman
Denon CO-75289

Weber: Concertos 1 and 2 plus Concertino
w/ Royal Philharmonic Orch., cond. Gunther Herbig
Denon CO-79551

The French Clarinet Art, containing:
Chausson: Andante et Allegro
Debussy: Petite Piece, Premiere Rhapsodie
Honegger: Sonatina
Milhaud: Caprice, Duo concertant, Sonatina
Poulenc: Sonata
Saint-Saens: Sonata
w/ Eric LeSage, piano
Denon CO-79282

Krommer (Kramar): Concertos in E flat major and E minor, and Concerto for
flute, clarinet and violin in E flat major
w/ Jean-Pierre Rampal and Frantz Liszt Chamber Orch., cond. Janos Rolla
Denon CO-75635

Works by Ignaz Pleyel and Franz Danzi
Denon CO-78911--forthcoming

Of 'French Clarinet Art' the British Gramophone magazine wrote (Sept. '92):
'It is records like this that almost lead a reviewer to dereliction of his
critical responsibilities....' The same magazine carried a feature article
on Paul Meyer in October '92.

Another much-admired clarinettist, Karl Leister, now records exclusively for
another Japanese label called Camerata. His 2-CD recordings of Mozart,
Mercadante and Weber are on 25CM-323-4. This one is very fine indeed and
with exceptionally truthful sound. As a smaller label than Denon it can be
still more difficult to find unless you know someone really willing to track
it down. I bought my copy from the EMI Record Store in Vienna, Austria,
while I was there on holiday.

Anyone interested in seeing the Gramophone articles referred to above can

broadcast).
