Hello everyone,

My name is Chris Vaughn. I'm a senior clarinet performance major at
Seattle Pacific University. One of the projects that I'm doing right now
is a research paper on Gustav Mahler's use of clarinet throughout his
symphonies. I'm trying to trace the "evolution" of his part writing. By
this I mean things like: How did he use the clarinet? Idiomatic fashion
or no? What did the clarinet represent? How did this change from
symphony 1 through 10? etc... What I'm looking for are some good
references on this topic. Does anyone know any good Mahler references
that may be helpful in deceiphering this rather vague topic? Any help
that could be offered would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,

Chris Vaughn
