Timothy and Robin,
What a relief to read something that has always mystified me
about my Penzel-Mueller, bought used for me by my Dad around
1951. He bought it from a jazz clarinetist who I guess
charmed my father (he wouldn't have laid out 90 bucks unless
he had been hypnotized by someone). With its original barrel
it is horribly sharp. One of my Christmas presents this year
was a Korg quartz tuner. I'm in my office right now, but
I'll tell you its pitch this afternoon.
