A few times in recent Clarinet Journals people have mentioned stumbling
across Clarinets in B-natural. I wonder if these weren't really just
B-flat instruments at a' @-----.

The high pitch phenomenon was known in other countries as well. A number
of the Catalonian Sardana Coblas were at this pitch, according to
Baines. Also, I know several 19th century American organs at this pitch
(e.g. Holy Cross RC Cathedral, Boston, built 1875).
