David writes that his wife does not like improvisation in the
Mozart solo pieces for clarinet. But why David? What is her
reason for the dislike? Is it general to all improvisation or
specific to that epoch's music?

No flames. I just am curious to understand the reasoning behind
her attitude on this subject. What does your wife play?
