I have looked into this in the past and asked around. As far as I can
tell, Omer Simeon's bass clarinet solo on SOmeday Sweerheart by
Jelly-Roll Morton is the earliest recorded jazz bass clarinet solo. It
may not be the most wonderful in the world, but he made up for it on his
other solos on the regular Bb horn (Albert, of course) with Morton,
especially on some trio recordings!
