Amidst the Stoltzman blows, quite a few names were tossed out of good
jazz clarinetists/doublers and the like. To get a little more precise. .
.who are the great jazz bass clarinetsts??
I give a vote to Bob Mintzer (doubler). Has anyone seen him live with
the Yellowjackets?? It is a sight to behold. Although he was known as a
big band leader/soloist (on sax) he totes around an EWI, a gaggle of
saxes, and a bass clarinet. Does anyone know his background??
Biggest disappointment was on a GRP Big Band disc when he and Eddie
Daniels took some slow ballad. They are both monster bebop players, who
came up with this ballad thing?? I felt it was quite a let down.
Aside from that, wasn't there this jazz clarinet player named Tony Scott
(I can't remember the last name accurately) who played this "double high
teeth-on-the-reed G??"
