I am a university student in Washington state and have been faithfully reading
the messages on this list for about two months now. In general, I have really
learned some interesting things about clarinet playing, and about other
clarinetists- their opinions, etc. But lately, I have found the discussions to
be a little bit offensive. I thought that the issue of intolerance of the
opinions of others had been dealt with very efficiently within the last few
weeks, but I see now that this is not the case. Not only are we entitled to our
own opinions, but it is one of the primary reasons for having a list such as
this. I would prefer to hear about issues dealing direstly with the instrument,
or at least issues generally realated to playing music, much more than I want
to hear how we feel about each other personally. If you are really offended by
someone, send a message directly to them and don't trouble the rest of us with
it. I think that we have all proven that we all have our opinions (especially
about Stoltzman) and I think it is possible to continue to express them without
getting personal.
