Bob Sheppard, you wrote:

"Stotzman is the Kenny G of the clarinet. Best to ignor this
crap. Not worthy of discussion."

'Seems we have some ignorant, close-minded, opinionated people on this list,
not to mention illiterate. I certainly don't appreciate the comment, since
the Klarinet list is supposed to be open to pretty much all subjects
pertaining to the clarinet and, therefore, all subjects are worthy of
discussion. Richard Stoltzman is certainly not a musician of fluff and
image. Those who have seen some of his live performances, or read some of
his writing (I read his Master's thesis on extended clarinet techniques from
his days at YALE UNIVERSITY - which might be taken as an indication of his
level of intellectual sophistication) understand that he is an individual of
various musical talents (as well as culinary, since he did attend the Cordon
Bleu in France and is a master chef as well). I wonder if people are simply
jealous of his unconventional success, in much the same way that they deride
Kenny G. True, I don't like Kenny G's music (or Yanni, for that matter), but
this does not relegate these people to be objects of scorn.
