Adam, I put some comments up recently about my experiences with specialized
listening. Generations ago that classical audience had worked much harder,
and in general had possibly attained more proficiency than today's upcoming
young audience (an argument at lest). We're producing more and
better at the top ranks, but the middle seems to be completely falling out.
My comment was to very accomplished string players with no appreciation of
why Shrifrin is who he is until they were immersed in my recent fixation.
I'm afriad the showmanship has replaced musicianship in too many venues.
