Your argument is certainly of value. On tone, as Eddie Daniels says, there
is no music without sound. What is music for? The ability to play difficult
concertos? The ability to play fast? I know I will probably be scorned on
this but to me the most important part of music to me is the joy and the
quality of tone.
Stoltzman's interpretations of certain pieces, to a blind listener hold
more weight than gold. His use of vibrato, slurring, and glissing fits the
piece and his interpretation. I have never, however, heard him gliss in the
midst of K.622. Have you?
