I remember hearing that there were actally two different types of
Chedeville clarinet mouthpieces. One of made by Charles Chedeville and
the other by Henry Chedeville.

I have failed to see anyone on the Klarinet list differentiate between
these two. I only bring this up because I was told they were quite
different, AND that one of them was terrible and the other was fabulous.
Upon reading that Clarke had worked on a number of these, some great and
others terrible, I wondered if he, or other people who play or have
worked on them have noticed a pattern for which one played better or
worse, or there was not difference at all.

The difference on the markings was that the Charles one was marked as
"Chas. Chedeville" but written in script. Whereas the Henry one was only
"H. Chedeville" and in printed form, not script. I do not remember if
there were "." after the first name though--a small detail. But I
remember hearing from a former teacher of mine that he had a Henry
Chedeville, which someone had etched on a "C" before it, hence "H" became
"CH CHEDEVILLE" (I seemed to remember that the Henry one's were in all
CAPS).

Now I can't seem to remember if I was told that the Charles or the Henry
was better. I _thought_ that the Henry was better, and to try to avoid
the Charles, but I can't remember properly. I will have to look it up
where I wrote it down. But if the Charles was better, then that would
allow this story to make sense. Because someone was trying to pawn off a
Henry as a Charles to someone who hadn't ever seen one before. Although
my former teacher really seemed to like his Henry. . .
