Gee, I actually get to use my access to 40,000 albums of music to advantage
on this forum! About the Shifrin recording of the Copland Concerto: It's
called "Music for the Theatre" (although this doesn't really jump out at you
from the front of the album). It's a 1989 EMI release with Gerard Schwarz
conducting the New York Chamber Symphony (of which I think Shifrin may be
principal clarinet). It's got a picture of Schwarz in the foreground, with
Shifrin standing behind him, holding his clarinet. What DOES jump out at you
from the front of the album are the words "Clarinet Concerto" in bright
yellow letters. Can't miss it. I'm not sure if this album is still in EMI's
active catalogue -- it may have been cut out by now. What I'D like to hear
is a recording of Eddie Daniels doing that piece. If he's done one, it
hasn't come across my desk at work yet. I still marvel at his recording of
the Brahms & Weber quintets, which are just beautiful.

Neil Leupold.
