After reading the bunch of notes on the subject of LeBlanc and Glotin's
behavior with respect to reeds (particularly Cary Karp's response which,
like most things I've seem him write about, is very thorough), I come
to the conclusion that while they may permit one to test their reeds and
select those they wish to purchase, there really isn't much evidence that
they sell those that are rejected. Most of the people who wrote on the
subject assumed that they sold the rejects, but Cary stated explicitly
that they destroy them. Furthermore, the boxes of reeds that are sent
to American (and everywhere else) are chosen from those that have not
been played. I think any other behavior would be unconscionable and it
has been my experience that both companies are reliable. One might not
find their reeds satisfactory (not my case at all; I only use Van
Doren reeds), but their ethics have never been questioned as far as I know.

Bottom line is that there is a good deal of speculation about these companies,
but there is no way I am convinced that they do what was originally alleged.
