In response to the reply,

In the month of December in 1990, I was visiting a friend of mine in
Paris who was a student at the Paris Conservatory. He suggested to me
that before I returned to England, we should go get some reeds. I don't
remember the address of the Vandoren factory, but when we arrived we
requested the strength of reed that we wanted to try. We were then
given a plastic tray with about 200 reeds. We playtested several hundred that
morning.

Now I can't speak for the fact that Glotin might have a similar practice. I was
told that they did by my friend. I'm not sure if this is still happening
today or not. But it did happen. And it only leaves me to believe that
the reeds that we get might not be quite what we think we are getting.
And I don't want to infer anything other than what happened. I'm simply
trying to point out fact for those who read this list and that are inter-
ested in it.

At that time in 1990, only the regular cut Vandoren reeds were available for pla
ytest. I quess the reeds that they can handselect might not be playtested
before they are shipped. I'm not really certain, that's just a quess. But
I do not know what happened to reeds that we tried and we unsatisfied with.
I have a feeling that they ended up in a box to be sold.
