I neglected to add in an earlier post that IMHO you get the tone that you
"hear" in your inner ear from years of listening, regardless of who made
the instrument. I'm assuming that the instruments in question are all
good quality instruments. Dan, as usual, I think you hit it on the head
here. The clarinet has no tone until someone plays it.
