Now, I am not anywhere close to an expert, being a student, so don't
take what I say TOO seriously:) Most of the other members have many
decades more experience, but I thought the more replies, the merrier!
I have recently been having very good success with Vandoren's
"Blackmaster" reeds of strength 4. I play on a Morgan mouthpiece with a
tip opening of 1.10mm. They, the Blackmasters, are fairly consistent,
but take a bit of "breaking in." Play 10 of them for a week, and they
sound very good, a few right out of the box. I also like the fact that
they have a little more wood everywhere, so they can withstand some
shaping.
If you get a chance, give them a try, see what you think, and post
the results, I would love to hear what you think. Good luck!
