Dan,
Of the four clarinets that I play regularly, only one, my Noblet
C instrument, is from the LeBlanc family. I make that disclaimer so that
no one will think me a LeBlanc chauvinist.
A few months ago, I received in the mail an impressive
market-survey questionnaire from LeBlanc -- undoubtedly well past any
time where replies could have influenced the design of the
Concerto model. (My guess is that LeBlanc's mailing was directed, in
large part, to the ICA membership list.) I mention this for two reasons:
1) because the questionnaire contained what I regarded as an
extensive and extremely well-thought-out set of questions,
and 2) LeBlanc is the only clarinet manufacturer that ever asked me
for such information.
If LeBlanc had been performing similar surveys prior to producing
their Concerto model, then I would find it believable that they had
information on which they could base a future model decision. Whether
that information was adequate for the decision, or whether their
analysis was subjective or objective is another matter. Based on what
I've seen, I believe that, at a minimum, they've done their homework.
