Here is another first contribution from a "lurker". I am a doctoral
student at UBC, studying with Wes Foster. Lorne Buick mentioned
a woodwind dealer in England. Her full name is June Emerson, and
I have an old catalogue which - to my chagrin- I just discovered
I pinched from my old college library in Egham,UK!! Anyway,
her address is: Windmill Farm, Ampleforth, Yorkshire.

I read the contributions on Messiaen's Quartet for the End of
Time with great interest. I just wanted to mention that there
was a full performance of this work broadcast recently on public
television. Before the performance, there was a clip of Messiaen
talking about the work's creation and first performnace. I don't
remember if he said the temperature was -40 or not, but he did
say that some of the clarinet keys were melted from overly
close proximity to a stove! He also said that despite the
appalling physical conditions, he had never been listened to
more intently by an audience than at that performance.
