The January issue of Playboy has just arrived. It has a picture of
Drew Barrymore on the cover but that is not the purpose of this note,
simply a matter of identification.

Opposite page 30 is an advertisement of Canadian Club whiskey and the
add should be of interest to all clarinet players. A Canadian Club
bottle has been altered with one end being a clarinet mouthpiece and the
other end the clarinet bell. Between the two is all sorts of key-work
and the way it looks to me it is the keys of the left hand of a clarinet
excluding the A and A-flat keys but including the 4 side keys. Below
that are more keys but not really identifiable in terms of where they
came from. Since the bottle has gold accessories on it, the keys
appear to be gold.

Now I can say, "I'm not looking at playboy for the pictures of women,
only for the advertisements showing various artistic aspects of the
clarinet." In years past there was a magnificent photo of Natasia
Kinsky with a bass clarinet. It was a nude, of course and the fact
that it was a low C bass clarinet was obvious from the key work that
was shown with several portions of the instrument hidden by her body.
It was extremely clever and very erotic. I pasted it up inside my
b.c. case and, on the very next gig, it was stolen.
