I've been playing on my Yamaha 72CS for 4 years and wouldn't even dream of
switching back to my Buffet. It might just be the particular instruments that
involved, but I've always been really, really happy with the way the Yamaha
plays and how it feels to play it. A few years ago when I was at the Midwest
Band and Orchestra Convention in Chicago, I talked to a guy from Yamaha and
he explained to me that basically what they had done with the 72 model was to
copy basic Buffet features and to improve on the things that they felt could be
better--like centering the pitch and tone qualtiy. Despite all this, I guess
the bottom line is that everyone has to play on an instrument that suits them
and that they are confident playing on.
