Fellow KLARINET listers, the computer system I use is in a state of total
and/or partial frenzy because no one can get any mail! One can dispatch it
to be sure, but no incoming mail is possible. Do not asky me why. I
have already told you more than I know.

This situation is liable to continue for several more days. (I am reminded
of what happens when one flies on Lufthansa within Germany. When the plane
is delayed for any reason - wings fall off - coffee not on board - the pilot
always says that the delay will be no more than 10 minutes. Thus, any
reference to 10 minutes may be freely translated as "We have no idea what is
wrong or how long it will take to repair the problem.") The computer people
tell me that significant things need to be done and I am in not position
to contradict them.

So if I am missing a terrific discussion about why everyone should return
to the epoch of wooden mouthpieces, or how unfair it was then the
articulated f#-g# was abandoned for soprano clarinets, or the immorality
of playing Boulez's music with clothes on, or the next few weeks of
all America playing Nutcracker, etc., etc., I am sorry to have to miss it.

But for general interest, right after the first of the year we are doing
the Lincoln Portrait with James Earl Jones and, with that voice, it
should really be something!!
