I can't agree more with Ed Pearlstein of U of N with regard to Bacus and
Benade authors of books on physics of music. Another book is:

Campbell, Murray, and Greated, Clive. Musicians Guide to Acoustics.
New York: Schirmer, 1988.

The first part of this book devotes itself to the "Anatomy of a musical
note". The remainder discusses sound production in musical instruments.
A section is devoted to woodwind instruments, brass, stringed
instruments and percussion (isolating each - clarinet, flute trumpet
etc.). The greatest thing about the book is that it is easily
understood.

I am very interested in the Gibson book. Our library has ordered
it...no telling when it will be in.
