I was digging around in the library and I came across a book on
the First Twenty-Five Years Programs 1951-1975 at the Marlboro
Music School and Festival. This was copyright 1976, and published
by the Marlboro Festival.

At slightly over 500 pages, this lists all the programs during
these years and performers. The index lists Works Performed,
and the Participating Artists, as well as Marlboro recordings
(both commercial and those now out-of-print--it lists everything
released, but doesn't differentiate what is now not in print).

So, I went though and have a list of all 38 clarinetists
involved at the festival, and their years of attendance. It
appears that Harold Wright and Richard Stoltzman have the market
cornered, attending 18 and 9 times, respectively, during these
years.

In all a very interesting book. But my question is, who are
all these players? Where are they now? Where were they at in
their careers at the time they went to Marlboro? In general,
is there a connecting point--did Rudolf Serkin, Harold Wright,
or another administrator hear someone play and invite them? I
was able to identify a few of the players listed, but those I
either know of vaguely or not at all, I have put an * by. Any
type of biographical info would be greatly appreciated.

I would have only put half stars by quite a few of those names,
because I have heard of some people, but only in passing. Like
I have played the Keith Wilson transcription of Hindemith
Symphonic Metamorphosis for band, and knew that he was teaching
at Yale.

As a final note, if any of you reading this personally just
saw a * by your name, PLEASE do not take it personally, as it
is my ignorance.

You know, my penultimate paragraph doesn't make any sense--I
got Keith Wilson confused with Michael Webster. But there
are others I have heard of. . .

Thank you
