I still swear I read and heard from a prof. of mine that the
QFTEOT was performed in -40 degree temps. I know that sounds
impossible. I was not there--can't vouch for the authenticity
of what are in books on Messiaen.

I really didn't find the QFTEOT to be impossible. Although
the string players met a few extra time (less than 3), a group
I was in put in together in 5 rehearsals because we couldn't
afford the violinist (the pianist and I hired someone who played
in Grant Park SO, Chicago, and Lyric Opera, etc.). But I found
listening to a bunch of recordings to be _imvaluable_. BTW,
there is supposed to be a new recording of this due out next
month on the Naim label (in England) of John Bruce Yeh performing
it live as part of the Concerts Under the Dome series in Oak
Park, IL. It should be available directly from him, for those
who know him, or at the Chicago SO store (on Michigan Ave.).
